Released in the 90's, with multiple power configurations and connection options, this "XL" version was the most
impressive and
versatile
of the
Precedent 600 Series!
The 6 Toshiba Multiple Emitter Power Transistor, quasi-complementary Class AB/2 configuration provides an impressive 900 Watts per Channel of power dissipation. This allows an
impressive
set of output configurations which enables a continuous average of almost 50% of this
potential
when driving 4 ohm speakers independently. Or Bridge the outputs into 8 ohms for a heart-pounding 750 watts of
continuous
power! All thermally protected with both passive cooling and overload protection!
While completely
independent from the
Thermal Protection circuit, the
Passive Cooling Fan also uses a thermocouple on the heat sink to determine when and how long the fan is needed.
This rack-mount unit weighs a healthy 31 lbs and measures
19.5" x
5.5" x 13.5" deep including the handles. While fully rack-mountable, it also has full feet installed to protect your counters. They are easily removed for rack mounting.
Condition:
This unique amp is in excellent condition with some signs of use! Aside from a few scuffs to the lid and handles, the only thing worth mentioning is some scuffs to the front panel that are hard to make out in the pics. The rack ears show very minor signs of previous mounting.
We are including a double-sided copy of the manual. Please inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.
Service:
Our tech carefully inspected and thoroughly cleaned both Level pots, and while it was open all caps were checked for bloating or leakage and the PC boards were inspected with all questionable PC joints re-flowed. The fan is a passive design, only engaging when the amp starts running hot. So we did have to replicate this condition with our heat gun to confirm operation. It kicked in quickly and quietly.
Testing:
Once serviced, this amp was set up on our test bench and it pumped out clear, distortion-free audio from both outputs with no hum or buzz.
