I’ve been an audiophile since I was 12 and ordered my first amp and turntable thru the mail, after building my own speakers! I keep trying new stuff, and comparing it, and moving some of it out. Then I got into fixing stuff, and now I have more repair than I can handle. There are deals to be had, maybe you should have them, and get the same thrill I got a million years ago when that first amp showed up on my porch.
Here’s a STROMBERG-CARLSON ASR-433 STEREO INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER. This thing combined a very full featured preamp section with a sweet little 6BQ5 based power amp good for 12 watts a side, according to the chassis sticker. I’ve heard these are amazing sounding units when fully working, which this one is not. I spent some time under the hood trying to figure out how to convert the ‘tape head’ section into another line-level input, but gave up; at least I didn’t disconnect anything while I was under there. The amp was, if not “running when parked”, at least not “smoking when parked”, all the iron seems good, and S-C was an early adopter of solid-state power supplies (the SR in ASR is 'silicon rectification'), so it’s not dependent on an overtaxed choke for good filtration (not that you couldn’t add a proper choke for better filtration). Comes as shown, as-is, with tube shields for the phono/head section.
