Hey guys, as with any of my electronics sales this is being offered with No Warranty. No Returns. No Refunds.Shipping is for only the 48 states in the Continental USA.
Selling our SA-9800.
This unit is used without any signs of it ever being refurbished. Appears to have always been looked after. I bought this from a guy that probably had a hundred thousand dollars worth of audio equipment in his house. All of which appeared to be cherished.
Let me tell the story of how I now own this stereo that I am offering for sale. My wife and I listened to a Pioneer SX-880 for a long time in our living room. I've had a different SA-9800 for a long time in a wood cabinet that I would like to have repaired. Well, I haven't found a great rebuilder of these vintage Pioneers yet. So when our SX-880 started having a protection mode issue I decided to sell it. I looked for another SA-9800. Stumbled onto an SA-8800. Well, an SA-8800 just isn't as cool or adjustable as a SA-9800 is. That leads us to the SA-9800 that you are looking at here.
I traveled far to buy this unit, and what a gem it is!
Great unit!
Please read the entire description.
This is a working SA-9800 that I use in our living room for hours nearly everyday. Generally listening through Apple music into a DAC (digital audio converter) as seen by the TV above.
This Amplifier sounds beautiful. Great detailed audio. This kind of stereo will remind you why you used to love music so much. For over ten years I thought that I just wasn't into music much anymore. I was wrong. I'm right back into music with the right equipment. Loving bass guitars more than ever.
Here are some issues that I've noticed:
*The the orange power light no longer lights up when the lever is On.
*If I haven't listened to it for a few days (me being out of town) I hear a slight bump in our JBL 4311 speakers upon it turning on. Fluoroscan shows about a 0.01 watt bump at most. When I flip between the Phono sections the fluoroscan also registers a watt input without audio playing but I don't hear the bump.
I notice a lot of people are into discussing the "Phono sections" of vintage equipment.
Each phono section sounds the same as the other. Currently running two Technics SL-QL1 turn tables each with different needles. The adjustable MC or MM Cartridge load dials help adjust the sound to match the type of cartridge your turn table uses. You can read about adjustments in the factory manual That is very helpful and something that even an SX-1250 doesn't have.
Face plate is not perfect, please inspect photos.
The steel cabinet is not mint.
The sound though, WOW, it is truly stunning.
In our place we have powered big speakers like A/D/S 1530s, JBL 4331As. Just amazing the fullness of the sound. Down to regular sized speakers like our daily 4311WX and previously owned JBL L56 speakers.
Now even though I couldn't hear one bit of scratchiness in the knobs I opened up this machine to clean it. Almost no dust was inside. Looked great.
I went ahead and cleaned the potentiometers and lubricated them to make sure they wouldn't get scratchy anytime soon.
The black painted steel case is original finish.
The exterior is original with wear / defects / usage / age. This is not a new item.
I don't see any new capacitors inside.
More photos upon request.
The sound is incredible!
It doesn't seem like the SA-9800 comes to market very often. Of the others I have seen, their ads make it seem that the owners don't know much about them. Or that they need some sort of repairs for it to sound good again.
This stereo doesn't have any of those problems. It is ready to ROCK!
Attention: The Pioneer SR303 is *NOT* included in this sale.
