    Description

You are bidding on a Technics SU-9070 preamplifier. Please read the entire description before bidding.
The Technics SU-9070 is a rackmount preamp from the "golden era" of hi-fi. It was manufactured between 1976 and 1981 and was designed to compete favorably with audiophile preamps of the day. The 9070's "Stereo Flat Preamplifier" designation is in recognition of its uncolored sound and flat frequency response across the audio spectrum. The preamplifier conforms to the "straight wire with gain" concept that was (and is to this day) the standard for hi-fi components. There are no tone controls to affect the sound. The front-panel switches include stereo/mono mode, external unit (as for an external equalizer) and a subsonic EQ filter. The three rotary switches are "recorder selector" to select recording source and dubbing options, "input selector" and "phono selector" (to be discussed below.) There's also a -20dB mute switch, presumably for use when you have an incoming call on your land line.
Of particular interest is the SU-9070's capability to accommodate three (count 'em) separate turntables. Not only are there separate inputs for two moving magnet cartridges and one moving coil, but there are three separate ground binding posts. Presumably, this is to prevent/minimize ground loops, but this is a little above my pay grade so no further speculation is offered. The back panel is similarly full-featured with an array of inputs and outputs that are self-explanatory. There are also three AC convenience outlets, one switched and two unswitched. The top cover has a signal-flow diagram corresponding to the back panel and three graphs pertaining to the phono stage.
It's been quite a while since I had this hooked up and accordingly it is being offered AS-IS for parts or restoration/repair. To the best of my recollection this is what I can tell you. The controls are noisy, the power indicator light is out, the half-inch feet are missing, and there is what appears to be tape residue along the bottom of the front panel. Also, the power cord is bundled with electrical tape. There may be other concerns but this is my best recollection. No warranties are expressed or implied.
Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. Contiguous 48 states only. (Sorry, no AK or HI.) Absolutely no international bidders using US-based freight forwarders or consolidators. Fully-insured shipping is set at a modest .75 as a further inducement. The preamp is built like a tank and weighs almost as much! In closing, this is your opportunity to own a highly-desirable audiophile preamplifier that is an excellent restoration candidate. Good luck!
