    Description

Before reading further- One of these amps is fully functional and sounds great. The other one will need some troubleshooting. While restoring these, I stuffed the old aluminum cans with new capacitors- and inadvertently put one in backwards. The capacitor was replaced but the unit does not function. It's probably just an output transistor or a driver, I didn't test anything. I shelved it to get back to later, and that was two years ago. I don't have time and no longer have an oscilloscope. The hard restoration work is done, and will be a great pair of amps for someone with time to repair it.
These amps belonged to the actor David Ogden Stiers, who played Major Charles Emerson Winchester III on the TV show Mash from 1977-1983. When he passed away in 2018, most of his nicer audiophile gear was sold. A few items they deemed worthless or in bad shape ended up in a junk shop outside of Eugene, Oregon. I bought these amps from that shop in 2019. I do not have any documentation, so it is just a cool story to go along with the amps and I realize it does not add any appreciable value.
Since he lived in Newport, Oregon until his death, the sea air corroded the faceplates and cages. I had no choice but to strip the faceplates and polish them, then I sanded and painted the cages.
All of the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with Silmic II's and the input caps were replaced with Dayton film caps.
I added blue LED power indicator lamps, replaced the on/off switches, replaced the power cords, and replaced the binding posts with gold plated ones. I polished the aluminum cans and painted the transformers. All wiring and solder connections were inspected.
