SCOTT 200-B Integrated 6GW8 ECL86 Tube Amp - restoredThis is a special amp from Scott and is one of their better sounding units. Mainly, this is because of the greater simplicity of the circuit. Also, it is low-powered (12 watts per channel) and is best suited for more efficient speakers, where it’s excellent sound quality will be maximized. My own systems follow this paradigm: low-powered tube amps with very efficient speakers. I think it provides better sound, in general, than the opposite approach. I recently sold another one I restored to a local guy who is using it nicely with his Klipsch Heresy speakers. Interestingly, the ECL86 output tubes combine the driver tube and output tube in one envelope, thus eliminating two tubes from the circuit. Simpler is better!
The output tubes are strong testing, matched pairs. One pair is Mullard and the other pair is Telefunken. The rectifier is an RCA 5AR4. The front end tubes are brand new JJ Electronic ECC83S. I replaced all eighteen coupling caps in the amp, including in the phono stage. I also cleaned all controls and tube sockets with Caig DeOxit D5 cleaner and cleaned the Tuner (Aux) and Phono input jacks. There is no hum, so the power supply filter capacitors are good. Circuit voltages read good, too. The amp is in really nice shape, cosmetically. The faceplate has no scratches and there is one hairline/fingernail scratch on the beveled top edge. All lettering is intact. The amp has been playing and working fine over the past few weeks and has been tested on both CD and phono input. No cabinet is supplied for the amp. The chassis measures 15 inches wide X 13 inches deep. Amp weighs 13 pounds before packing.
