    Description

This mask comes from my personal collection, I have collected Native American art since the 1970's.  This mask has been in my possession since 1993 when I purchased it directly from Lisa Ray.  The mask is covered in rust leather (has hand painted lightning  through the eye) with fringe ending in dentalium shells.  The right side of the face has a rattlesnake skin attached over the eye.  Three jaw bones (don't know what kind - fox?) dangle from the nose of the mask.  A white fox fur surrounds the mask, includes face, ears and paws.  A two prong deer horn is on the right.  Three cedar sticks are tipped with fox fur.  Various feathers including 2 painted imitation eagle feathers.  Four leather wrapped wool lengths hang down the right under the deer horn.  Moss, horsehair and feathers are attached to the left side of the mask.  The signature is on the inside of the mask, blurry.  Many of Lisa's masks have personal family meanings.  The deer, fox and snake may have been caught by a family member.  The shells may have been gathered at the beach on vacation.  Everything is symbolic of a family history.
