    Description

Another "Plug & Play" coming to you from Florida! This unit was in terrible shape electrically when I got it from an EBAY seller, who, to his credit, would not say whether it worked. I like a challenge, however, so I bought it hoping I could work some magic with it. I replaced the ageing "dynamite stick" power supply filter capacitor with individual units mounted on a turret board, which made for a relatively neat replacement installation. I then replaced ALL eight of the 220K plate load resistors, six of which had completely opened up (Where did Knight GET those bad boys?!) I replaced the .02UF ceramic coupling caps in the line amplifier with orange drops, and finally cleaned the switch contacts and controls with cleaner. Also replaced one 6BM8 tube socket. I was fascinated to see that Knight uses the output tube current to light the filaments in the 12AX7s in the phono preamp! I then tested it over several weeks with the TV in my living room, driving my Athena floor standing speakers as seen in the pictures.
    The magic happened
when I hooked it up to a turntable and listened to a record. So it all works! The proceeds from this sale will go toward my SACD player fund. I'll ship it UPS Ground. The 12AX7s are a real pain to get in and out, so I'll leave them plugged in to their sockets and save you the trouble. I will remove the rest of the tubes (4-6BM8, 1-6CA4) and pack them in bubble wrap for the journey.
Note: The circuit of this amplifier is identical to the KG-250, which has a different style case. Everything else is the same. However, there are no markings on the unit anywhere identifying it as either model number. I used the KG-250 schematic to refurbish the unit.
