  • Condition: In generally good cosmetic condition. Small number of scratches, dings and pits to the face. All visible in photos. Bottom left corner of face has been bent slightly. It's in working condition and sounds great BUT has two issues. Power cable needs replacing or could be shortened with a new plug, and one VU meter is sluggish. Actual sound output is unaffected, but the VU meter shows a lower response. Picture included showing comparison when playing a mono track.

    Description

(relisted due to someone / probably a bot trying to buy it internationally - this is for sale with domestic shipping only)
Lovely sounding Hitachi HMA 6500 power amplifier from 1979. I adore the late 70s / early 80s Hitachi Mosfet amps. Not sure why they've flown under the vintage audio radar for so long, as they provide a very rich and detailed 3D sound. This one is fully working albeit with a couple of issues. It mostly looks nice, but does have marks and dings to the face, and top cover. I've tried to show these in the pics, so look carefully and you'll see a scratch below the left VU meter, and pits and dings and marks to the left edge, with a slight bend to the bottom of the face plate too. I've boosted contrast and details in Photoshop to make them clearer...but to be honest, from a foot or two away they're not noticeable.
Both VU meters work, and the bulbs both work. One meter is sluggish though. Sound output is fine / unaffected, but one meter shows a much lower output than the other. Pic included (second to last) showing comparison when playing a track recorded in mono.
Other issue is the power lead will either need replacing or shortening. Person I bought this from neglected to mention that the power lead had been cut through. I installed a new plug, and have used the amp in my office for the majority of this year, but have reinstated the old plug for this sale - clearly marking the splice with blue heat shrink. This is
    NOT
to be considered a repair, and the issue will need to be sorted by the buyer. I take no responsibility for any problems regarding the cable - it needs a proper repair.
The cable in its current form is not to be considered repaired.
Aside from the issues listed above, it's been a real workhorse, and an absolute pleasure to listen to. Would love to hang onto it, but grabbed a 7500 and an 8500 too and no longer have a need / space for it.
It will be packed and protected very carefully - I like to send out stuff in the same way I'd like to receive it.
