Description
I have a really nice vintage Marantz 1060 amplifier for sale here, Made in Japan in the early 1970s. This is the rare "champagne engraved" version, and is a very early one, with serial number 2238. This is in very nice condition, but it does have a few nicks and scratches on the faceplate, and has a deep scrape/nick on the faceplate on the right side below the lower screw. The cover has some light to moderate wear and a few scrapes/scratches as well. The back panel is in extremely nice condition, with very little wear. The knobs are incredibly nice, and are all original champagne knobs. This is a really nice one! This is in perfect working condition with no issues whatsoever. This has the usual inputs--a phono input for your turntable, an aux input, a tuner input, a tape input, a set of tape play/record jacks, main ins/pre outs, and two sets of speaker outputs that you can run separately or together. This is in great working order and sounds fabulous.
This came to me with a weak channel, due to a bad amp board transistor. It had been worked on in the past--one capacitor and two outputs were not original. I rebuilt the power supply, phono EQ, preamp board, and the power amplifier board completely, and replaced the four output transistors, 4 mica insulators, three main capacitors and the bridge rectifier and two attached caps, using brand new parts from Mouser. I replaced 42 capacitors, 25 transistors, 4 diodes, 4 trimmers, and the bridge rectifier. Removed parts are pictured
but are not included.
I also set the amplifier bias and DC balance voltages so this runs perfectly.
I used Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Cornell-Dubilier (for the main caps), Panasonic FC, Wima film capacitors, and two yellow film caps. Wima film caps cost more but they perform better and sound better. I used the correct Fairchild/Onsemi transistors to substitute for the original transistors. The outputs are the correct Onsemi MJ21194G transistors. Trimmers are new Bourns trimmers.
I cleaned and lubed the switches and controls with Deoxit, so they are smooth and static-free. This is in plug-and-play condition, and sounds absolutely incredible. This sounds significantly better than any unrestored Marantz from this era, and frankly I think it looks better too. Seriously, you will not believe how good this sounds. This is officially rated at a solid 30 watts per channel but these usually test around 40 WPC. This can power almost any speakers to room-clearing levels, and can handle almost any vintage speakers.
This is fully restored, and all the parts that go bad have been replaced, so this should be good for another 25-30 years. It is fully guaranteed.
I have rebuilt 20-30 Marantz 1060s in the last few years--they're just so fun to work on!
