    Description

(A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THIS RARE, BEAUTIFUL, AND SPARKLING-CLEAN VINTAGE MAGNAVOX EL84 STEREO TUBE AMPLIFIER IS PROVIDED AFTER THE PHOTOS. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE DESCRIPTION)
First, there was the little "Baby Maggie" Magnavox tube amplifier that I sold a few weeks ago here on EBay.  Next, was the large "Big Daddy Maggie" Magnavox tube amplifier that I sold.  Now, it's the mid-sized "Momma Maggie" Magnavox tube amplifier which is up for auction!  This is another really nice-looking vintage tube amplifier made by Magnavox. It is part of the collection of beautiful and clean vintage Magnavox tube amplifiers that I recently purchased at an estate sale. According to what I’ve seen on-line, this amplifier is considered by many people to be one of Magnavox’s best stereo EL84 tube amplifiers. It has a beautiful, sparkling-clean, shiny, and impressive appearance in my opinion as the photos show. It would make a great addition to any vintage electronic collection.  I have provided a large number of photos so that you can see what this amplifier looks like from all different angles and, if any of the photos don’t load, just click “Refresh” and they should then load.
    ***DETAILED INFORMATION INVOLVING THE AMPLIFIER***
The amplifier being sold in this auction was made by Magnavox as noted above. As the photos show, this amplifier has a very attractive look to it and is in wonderful cosmetic condition in my view.  Also, its components are laid out very well, it appears to be of very heavy-duty construction, and is quite compact in size.   When I purchased it, this amplifier was carefully wrapped up in cloth and stored in a closed box. It is very clean, shiny, and good-looking in my opinion and please check out all of the photos that I have provided. I don’t know what the model number of this amplifier is although, when I bought it, there was a small piece of paper with it which said that it was a Model 196-00. This would seem to agree with what I have seen on the Internet regarding this amplifier.  However, I don’t know whether this model number is correct or not and I’ll leave a determination as to what model number it is to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.  As noted above, the amplifier being sold in this auction has a nice, clean, and shiny appearance as the photos show.  However, it does have some discolored areas, smudges, scuffs, scratches, bends (for example, near the corners at the front and rear of the chassis), scrapes, marks, stains, dings, dents, rough spots, swirls, etc. on it from age, use, etc. Also, the top of the power transformer has some rough areas, nicks, scuffs, paint chips, etc.  It appears that some of these chips might have been touched up with a black pen or something similar by the amplifier’s former owner but I don’t know if this is true or not.  However, many or most of the above-listed items are too small to be picked up by the camera in the photos.  In any event, the amplifier chassis and the transformers (as well as the other components and parts associated with the amplifier) look really nice in my view (especially for a classic and vintage amplifier that is at least about 60+ years old to the best of my knowledge) and please check out the photos for a variety of different views of this amplifier.
Located on the top surface of the amplifier is a pair of jacks labelled “CH 1” and “CH 2”, along with the word “INPUT” next to them.  There are 2 controls on the top surface of the amplifier.  The first control is labelled “HUM BAL”. The second control is labelled “BALANCE” along with “CH 1” and “CH 2”. Both of these controls have some interesting-looking dark-brown plastic knobs on them with small indicator “dots” on each one.  I don’t know if these knobs are original or not. They have a nice, shiny appearance and are a cool-looking color.  While they have some scratches, nicks, chips, dirt, etc. on them, they look very good in my view.  In addition, there is a large white socket at the front of the amplifier which is labelled "TUNER PWR".  Furthermore, there is a terminal strip with various screws on it which is located on one side of the amplifier.  This strip is labelled “SPEAKERS”, with the screws being labelled “2”, “1”, and “G”, respectively.  There are also 2 additional jacks at the rear of the amplifier which are labelled “PILOT LIGHT”.  I know nothing about these jacks, terminal strip, screws, controls, and socket, and I also do not know if they work, how they work, if they are operational, if they are correct, if they are functional, if they are original, if they have been repaired or replaced in the past, etc. and I will leave an assessment of these items (and all of the other parts, tubes, and components used by the amplifier) to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.  There is no on/off switch or other controls on this amplifier aside from those listed above. I have not inspected or tested the power cord/plug (or any of the other components and parts used by the amplifier, as well as the amplifier as a whole) as noted herein. One thing that I did notice is that the power cord seems to be a bit shorter than the cords on other Magnavox tube amplifiers that I have sold. It may have come this way from the factory but I don’t know if this is correct or not.  I will therefore leave an assessment of the power cord/plug, the amplifier’s other components and parts, and the amplifier as a whole to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert. Since I am selling this amplifier for non-operational display purposes only, I will leave everything associated with this amplifier (including the power cord/plug) unchanged just as I purchased it/them at the estate sale and I will leave any changes, modifications, repairs, inspections, assessments, replacement of any parts/components, additions of any parts/components, subtractions of any parts/components, updates, upgrades, expansions, revisions, etc. to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.
Regarding the tubes which are included with the amplifier (and came with it when I bought it), they are all vintage “Magnavox” brand and are as follows (see the photos of the tubes): (A) 6BQ5 (EL84); (B) 6BQ5 (EL84); (C) 12AX7; and (D) 5U4GB.  I did not test these tubes and I therefore do not know if they are good or not. Likewise, the graphics are smudged/missing/faint on one or more of the tubes.  Since I don’t know how old these tubes are (they may even be the original tubes but I don’t know if they are or not), the buyer of the amplifier being sold in this auction should assume that one or more or all of the tubes will need to be changed, replaced, etc.  As to what sockets are used in connection with the above-listed tubes, the tube-numbers are stamped into the amplifier surface next to each tube socket. I did not check the tube sockets and I likewise cannot warrant or guarantee that they are good, original, and operational. Accordingly, I will again leave all of the issues with the tubes (whether the tubes are good, whether the sockets are good, what sockets the tubes should be in, etc.) to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert to determine. Also, I have no idea if the wiring in the amplifier is correct or good and I don’t know anything about the transformers used by the amplifier (if they are correct, original, good, functional, etc.), as well as the other electronic components associated with the amplifier and I will therefore leave an assessment of these items to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.
Regarding the electronic components used by the amplifier, I have provided an underside view of the amplifier in the photos which shows various components, parts, wires, controls, etc. I have no idea if any work has been done on this amplifier in the past and if the components, parts, wires, etc. are correct, original, appropriate, and proper for this amplifier, if they are correctly wired/installed, etc. and this is also something that I will leave for the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert to assess.
The amplifier chassis has a fairly large power transformer and 2 output transformers as shown in the photos.  Both of the output transformers are secured to the amplifier chassis using rivets. This would appear to indicate that they are both original although I don’t know if that is true or not.  Likewise, I don’t know if the power transformer is original or not (and if it is good or not).  Accordingly, I will leave an assessment of all of these transformers (and all of the other parts, components, structures, elements, features, controls, etc. used by the amplifier) to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert. Both of the output transformers have the same numbers on them as follows: “138013” and “320082-1”. I have no idea what these numbers mean and I will leave an assessment of them to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.  In addition, the power transformer appears to be fairly large and impressive.  It has the word “MAGNAVOX” on it along with the following numbers/letters: “C300177G1” and “A 9 39”. Some of the numbers on the power transformer are a bit hard to read so I cannot be sure that the above-listed numbers are correct.  I also have no idea what these numbers/letters mean and I will likewise leave an overview of them to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.  Furthermore, there is another smaller transformer underneath the chassis as shown in the photo that I have provided.  I do not know what this transformer is supposed to do, if it is operational/functional, if it is original, if it is correctly wired, etc.  Accordingly, I will likewise leave an overview of this additional smaller transformer to the buyer and/or the buyer's electronics expert.
The amplifier chassis also has a really nice-looking “MAGNAVOX” name-badge on the front of it as the photos show. I don’t know if this name-badge is original or not and I don’t know how the name-badge is secured to the amplifier chassis (it may be secured using glue, etc. but I don’t really know).  The name-badge has some scratches, bends, etc. on it but, as noted above, looks quite good in my view.  This name-badge really gives a nice and classic look to the amplifier!
In summary, this amplifier is, in my opinion, really nice-looking, clean, shiny, impressive, and has a very distinctive “retro” appearance. It also has a very compact size and interesting layout of components. Now is your chance to have a very cool-looking vintage tube amplifier which, in my view, would be a really fun item to own!
***TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE AUCTION***
**Very Important Information – Please read carefully before you bid**: Regarding the amplifier being sold in this auction, this is an estate sale item and I honestly don’t know anything about how it works, whether it works, whether its internal and external wiring is correct or good, whether its components and parts are good, and whether it is complete. I have not done anything to this amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components and I know nothing about their condition. The above-described amplifier may have been worked on, repaired, had parts replaced/repaired, had parts added/subtracted, and/or been modified by someone else in the past, but I don’t know whether this is true or not. Likewise, I have not plugged in and have not tested the amplifier being sold in this auction and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components, with all of these items and the above-mentioned amplifier as a whole being sold untested just as I purchased it/them at the estate sale. In this regard, I have done nothing to this amplifier and I have not inspected it (or any of its parts/components) internally or externally. In addition, please note that this auction is for a single amplifier as shown in the photos.
Please also note: The equipment which is being sold in this auction (including the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components) is being sold entirely as a non-operative display item only. Since this amplifier is an untested, vintage estate sale item, the buyer of this equipment should therefore assume that this amplifier is going to need some work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, repairs, rewiring, upgrading, power transformer replacement/repair, output transformer replacement/repair, additional transformer replacement/repair, electronic components, power cord/plug replacement, additional parts, tubes, jacks, sockets, resistors, capacitors, controls, terminal strips, screws, knobs, etc.  However, I do not know how much work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, repairs, rewiring, upgrading, power transformer replacement/repair, output transformer replacement/repair, additional transformer replacement/repair, electronic components, power cord/plug replacement, additional parts, tubes, jacks, sockets, resistors, capacitors, controls, terminal strips, screws, knobs, etc. would be needed to get everything operating in the above-listed equipment and I will leave this up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert. I know nothing more about the amplifier being sold in this auction (and everything associated with it) and, accordingly, all of these items (the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components) are again being sold for non-operational display only with no guarantees or warranties of any kind. Please also note that, because this amplifier came out of a console, it does not have a bottom plate, cabinet, or a top cover/cage which, if desired and/or needed, the buyer will need to provide. Likewise, this amplifier does not have a pilot light bulb, pilot light bulb socket, tube shields, on/off switch, and any controls other than those described above (to the best of my knowledge), etc. which, if desired and/or needed, the buyer will need to provide.  Furthermore, no other items such as paperwork, instructions, schematics, boxes, cartons, spare parts/tubes/wires/bulbs, or any other items are included with this amplifier.
Likewise, it does not appear that there is any fuse in this amplifier (it does not appear that there was ever one since there is no fuse-holder, etc. although I don’t know if this is correct or not) and I can’t tell if it currently has a fuse/fuse-holder or if it ever had one.  In this regard, I will leave it up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert to assess the fuse-issue, to determine whether or not one or more fuses are needed and/or desired, and to add one or more fuses if needed and/or desired as again determined by the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.  I will leave any changes, modifications, repairs, inspections, assessments, tests, replacement of any parts, upgrades, corrections, rewiring, additions of any parts, subtractions of any parts, expansions, revisions, etc. to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert.   As noted above, since this amplifier is being sold entirely as a non-operative display item, the buyer will be receiving this amplifier in the exact condition that it was in when I purchased it at the estate sale and, in this regard, I have done nothing to it and have not tested it as noted above.
The amplifier associated with this auction will be shipped via the U.S. Postal Service.  This amplifier is quite heavy and will be double-boxed which will further add to its weight. Please note that, if the final shipping cost is more than the amount quoted above, I will pay the difference and if it is less than the quoted amount, I will keep the difference. I am an excellent packer and shipper. Check out my 100% positive feedback and the wonderful compliments that I have received about my packing and shipping. In addition, the quoted shipping cost is not applicable for shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and US territories/possessions/locations outside of the continental US which will be higher and will be separately quoted after the auction. While I will pack this item very securely, some of the wires, components, parts, capacitors, resistors, sockets, transformers, jacks, power cord/plug, name-badge, controls, terminal strips/screws, knobs, etc. associated with the amplifier may detach, break, or otherwise come off of the items to which they are connected/attached during shipment due to possible rough handling during shipment, etc., thereby requiring reattachment/replacement/repair by the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert if he or she desires. Likewise, it is always possible that one or more of the internal components in the above-listed tubes may experience problems during shipping (and that the remaining tube numbers, graphics, etc. may partially or entirely rub off) due to possible rough handling during shipment.  Furthermore, the name-badge is fairly delicate and may, in fact, partially or entirely come off, break, crumble, crack, etc. due to possible rough handling during shipment.  In addition, the black paint on the power transformer is also quite delicate and one or more portions, chips, etc. of paint may come off during shipment due to possible rough handling, etc. However, I will do my best to try and prevent these situations by very carefully packing this amplifier although I cannot guarantee that they won’t happen. Furthermore, this amplifier is already packed-up for shipping. Accordingly, I cannot honor any special packing and shipping requests. Please make a note of this.  Additional note: I will not disassemble anything associated with this amplifier and the entire amplifier will be shipped totally assembled.
I did not inspect, repair, examine, modify, update, and/or work on the equipment being sold in this auction (the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components) and it is therefore important and necessary that this amplifier (along with all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components) be examined thoroughly by an electronic expert inside and out before the amplifier is plugged in, powered up, handled, tested, worked on, repaired, connected to any other equipment, instruments, speakers, or components, connected to a power source/supply, modified, disassembled, upgraded, the addition of any parts/components thereto, the removal of any parts/components therefrom, and/or used. Any repairs to this amplifier as well as the connection of this amplifier to any other equipment, instruments, speakers, and components, the connection of this amplifier to a power source/supply, the plugging in of this amplifier, the modification of this amplifier, the disassembly of this amplifier, the handling/testing of this amplifier, the upgrading of this amplifier, the addition of any parts/components to this amplifier, the removal of any parts/components from this amplifier, and the use of this amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components should only be attempted by an electronic expert. I do not know if the amplifier being sold in this auction works (it is being sold untested as noted herein) and, since it is used vintage equipment, the buyer should again assume that it will need work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, repairs, rewiring, upgrading, power transformer replacement/repair, output transformer replacement/repair, additional transformer replacement/repairs, electronic components, power cord/plug replacement, additional parts, tubes, jacks, sockets, resistors, capacitors, controls, terminal strips, screws, knobs, etc.  The equipment being sold in this auction should therefore not be considered a “plug and play” item and should be considered to be non-working.  Also, one or more or all of the tubes may need to be replaced. Please make a note of this.  Likewise, I cannot guarantee or warrant that the amplifier being sold in this auction (and any of its parts/components) is restorable if that is desired by the buyer and/or the buyer’s electronic expert. Furthermore, all of the tubes, tube sockets, capacitors, resistors, jacks, transformers, power cord/plug, sockets, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, wires, and all of the amplifier’s other components/parts need to be checked out by an electronic expert to see if the tubes are good, if the tubes are the correct ones for this amplifier, if the tubes are in the correct sockets, and if all of the tubes, tube sockets, capacitors, resistors, jacks, transformers, power cord/plug, sockets, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, wires, and all of the amplifier’s other components/parts are good, correct, properly-wired, and operational before the amplifier is powered-up, tested, used, worked on, modified, connected to any other equipment, instruments, speakers, or components, connected to a power source/supply, plugged in, upgraded, etc.
The amplifier being sold in this auction and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components are being sold as-is with no warranties express or implied. Likewise, I have no idea whether everything is original or not in the above-listed equipment and I therefore cannot make any warranties regarding originality. In this regard, I do not know if any of the parts, power transformer, output transformers, additional transformer, capacitors, resistors, jacks, sockets, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of the other components used in the amplifier are original or if they have been repaired/replaced at some time in the past.  I also do not warrant that this amplifier is complete and I do not know if there are any missing or incorrect parts/components, etc. Thus, I cannot warrant completeness of the equipment being sold in this auction. This amplifier involves a piece of used vintage 60+ year old electrical equipment to the best of my knowledge which needs restoration and it is being sold entirely for non-operational display purposes only (important). No returns or refunds, and seller is not responsible for any damages or injuries of any kind resulting from the use, inspection, operation, connection to other equipment, components, speakers, or instruments, connection to a power source/supply, repair, work on, modification, disassembly, handling, the plugging in, the upgrading of, the addition of any parts/components thereto, the subtraction of any parts/components therefrom, and/or the testing of the amplifier being sold in this auction and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components. Buyer uses, inspects, operates, connects to other equipment, components, speakers, or instruments, connects to a power source/supply, repairs, modifies, disassembles, works on, handles, plugs in, upgrades, adds components/parts thereto, subtracts components/parts thereto, and/or tests the amplifier being sold in this auction and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, power cord/plug, capacitors, resistors, jacks, controls, terminal strip/screws, knobs, and all of its other components at his or her own risk.
Furthermore, the colors of the items being sold in this auction as they appear in the photos may differ compared with the actual items due to the lighting which existed when the photos were taken. Likewise, seller is not responsible for any errors or omissions in this listing. If you have any questions, please ask before you bid and we will be happy to respond to the best of our ability.  Payment within 2 days of end of auction. Also, and this is important, should shipping damage occur, the filing of the insurance claim will be the buyer’s responsibility. Should EBay go “down” for any period of time within two (2) hours from the end of this auction, we also reserve the right to terminate/cancel the auction. ***Finally, by bidding on this item, the bidder agrees that he or she has fully reviewed and entirely understands all of the detailed information in the paragraphs listed above and completely accepts such information***. Thanks and happy bidding!
