    Description

AKAI AM-U7 Stereo Intergrated Amplifier- 80wpc/Toroidal - Mint Cond- Must See. Condition is "Used".
This Akai AM-U7 is from a large audio enthusiasts collection. It is in beautiful original condition. Looking at it - It is hard to find anything wrong with it. There is a small rub mark on the right lower outer corner, And there is a little scratch on the top edge of the faceplate just right of the folding door. See Photos. I don’t use the word “MINT” very often, however I see this amplifier as mint. It is so clean inside and out- It looks like it just came out of a time capsule.
There isn’t a lot of information online about this Integrated Amplifier, and I couldn’t even find an instruction manual for it. So I spent some time testing it and inspecting-
Everything seems to be working just fine on this machine. The first thing I noticed was how heavy and well built it is for its size. When I took off the cover I was blown away. The layout is well thought out - I like the nice JR. Size TOROIDAL TRANSFORMER And 2- Nichicon 15000 Capacitors. Check it out- Absolutely Awesome! I went through and tested all the inputs and hooked up speakers- everything tested as working. All lights/switches working. The folding door that covers the tone controls operates correctly. Looks ready to plug in and go to work. It has great sound and more than enough power to push most any speakers.
My guess is that people have overlooked this GEM of an amp because of the plastic faceplate and more modern push button switches and modern look. The slider volume switch works great and also doubles as the fader switch. It also has a cool backlight that changes with the function. When you power it up the volume switch light is orange (fader). After 5 seconds the light switches to green (volume). It has high end features such as line straight switch, 2 tape deck inputs with monitor, Gold Plated PHONO rca connectors, And MM & MC Phono selector. Overall it looks like electronics construction from 1979-1980 with the faceplate of the Early 80s construction. I believe this was manufactured 1982-1983. I just couldn’t believe that TOROIDAL Transformer. I haven’t seen one of those since the Pioneer SX -1250/ SX-1980. It’s just like a junior size to to fit this amp.
