    Description

Hello and welcome to another of my listings!! Today for your consideration is this really cool vintage circa early 1960's Stromberg Carlson Stereophonic tube amplifier model ASR 220C!!!
This is the standalone unit they offered, this is not pulled from a console. Here's the rundown of the units condition; While it is working, please read my entire description before purchasing or making an offer. I know it's long but it's because it's a detailed description of its functionality.
This came out of a local barn where it's sat for better than 30 years. When I got this unit it was in rough shape, it had a lot of rust and corrosion, was missing one of the 7408 tubes and was looking terrible. I'm not an electronics expert, I just have basic knowledge.
I cleaned up the exteriors of the power supplies and inside of the case to remove the rust and vacuumed out the entire case and board. I wiped down each tube as they were grimy and I picked up a 6V6GT tube to replace the missing 7408. (I know this is not what audio guys want to hear as it's not a matched pair). There are maybe two or three Stromberg Carlson tubes in here the rest are GE or other replacements from some point in its life prior to me.
I sprayed all the switches and potentiometers with Deoxit and worked them. I did the same to the auxiliary rca input only as I just wanted to test it a bit and not continually run it before it's serviced.
I have to say it sounds really good, I did have to jiggle the input switch on the far left a little to get the Left Channel to play but it plays pretty full and the unit sounds incredible! The highest I could have the volume on enjoyably was 3.5 in my house before it was too loud, I had it hooked to a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers. I can send videos of it playing if you message me a cellphone number but every transaction goes through eBay no exceptions!
That being said this unit does work, but 100% needs to be gone over and serviced for reliable daily use. This would include but not be limited to new capacitors, resistors, 4 new matching 6V6GT tubes, you can pick up a set of four for like 30 bucks from Russia I believe here on the bay and possibly any other tubes that need to be matched in this unit. I would also get new RCA inputs, a new external AC outlet on the back as the old one is cracked.
I believe it needs a new power switch as it doesn't seem to turn the unit on or off but rather always be on. Both of the filter switches work fine and I'm not sure what reverse does but I didn't mess around with it. Also the mono to stereo switch works fine. Switches and knobs appear to be all original, there is pitting to the metal and wear to this unit as pictured.
This is not a perfect unit but it is a really solid candidate in my opinion for restoration!! It is sold as is and as described, do not buy this thinking you're going to use it everyday as it sits, it needs to be professionally gone over and it will be well worth it! Sold as is.
Overall a really great Stromberg Carlson Stereophonic stereo amplifier that would be a great addition to any home audio set up after being serviced and restored!! Thank you for looking and feel free to make an offer!
